St Edward’s School is closed until further notice.
Due to levels of staff self-isolation, effective safeguarding practice will be compromised and as such we are unable to remain operational. All pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans have been risk assessed and are safe to remain at home.
The building is closed, but the school as a point of education and welfare will continue to operate. Each pupil has been sent a two week work pack with a full curriculum complement. For the duration of the closure, a new work pack will be dispatched fortnightly. The work will be accessible, but will promote challenge and therefore progress. The school has provided a suggested daily timetable; this will provide stability, and promote feelings of familiarity and safety. Our Speech and Language Therapist has written a social story to explain the circumstances around the school’s closure and our Therapeutic Services team has created a, ‘Think Well, Feel Well’ booklet to help channel positive thoughts and allay any anxieties that pupils may feel during times of uncertainty. Our SENCo has produced a list of literacy resources, including a login to each pupil’s online Lexia account and every pupil has been sent home a book to read as part of their Accelerated Reader programme.
If you need to contact the school you can do so using the school’s phone number (01794 885 252), or via firstname.lastname@example.org. It is vital that pupils feel ‘held’ by the people that they have become attached to in school and that they know we are mindful of their wellbeing, even when they are not here. To that end, they must be encouraged to maintain lines of communication in addition to twice weekly welfare calls that designated members of the Care and Education teams will be making. The Therapeutic Services team has also included an email address in the booklet provided and will respond to all communications from pupils.
